Stories about Holocaust Resistance and Survival
In 2023, telling historically accurate accounts of the Holocaust has moved from important to critical, as fear, extreme nationalism, bullying, abuse, and oppression of many groups grows, as anti-Semitic acts skyrocket, in America and globally (after decades of steady decline), as rising abuse of the words “Holocaust” and “Nazi” demean the memory of the victims and survivors, and as more oppressive and expansionist tyrants, driven by a level of paranoia parallel to the Nazis, lead more countries (and companies and homes) in more brutal ways.

“For the dead, and the living, we must bear witness.” Elie Weisel
Theologian Emil Fackenheim asks, how, after Auschwitz, we can find enough hope and faith to fight against Nazi like oppression today? He responds that if resisters and rescuers, in the middle of unfathomable evil, at the risk of their lives and the lives of their families and neighbors, found enough hope and faith to fight the Nazis and their collaborators during the Holocaust, then, we today, can find that faith and hope, if we listen attentively to their stories.
