Good Friday, April 7
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. Two very old services help to facilitate this remembrance, The Stations of the Cross and the Veneration of the Cross. The Stations are adapted from pilgrimage sites in Jerusalem where Jesus suffered his Passion and death. In the Veneration of the Cross, the clergy and people approach the cross and offer a gesture of respect for what it represents. Many people kneel and kiss the cross. In the past, many people approached the cross by crawling on hands and knees.
9 a.m. – 6 p.m. – Church open for self-guided Stations of the Cross. Literature is available in Spanish and English.
12 p.m. Guided Stations of the Cross – Church. This service uses David Crean’s liturgy Falling in Jerusalem.
7 p.m. Good Friday Liturgy, Veneration of the Cross – Church
