Candlemas Procession
February 2 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Bring your candles and join us for our Candlemas procession on Sunday, February 2, at 5 p.m. The name “Candlemas” comes from the tradition of blessing candles on this day. These candles symbolize Christ as the “light of the world” (John 8:12). It commemorates an event described in the Gospel of Luke when Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem 40 days after his birth. The feast reflects the moment when the old man Simeon recognized Jesus as the Son of God and, having seen the Messiah, spoke the prophetic words that we sing as the evening canticle Nunc Dimittis, “Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word.”
